Farewell to Sheep Walking with Good Day Out

It was 2012 when Julia had the idea of walking sheep. Her concept was that Sheep Trekking would help a local farmer to make additional income using what they have on hand and the Experience would help visitors to engage with the local countryside and culture in a new way……simple you might think?

After 2 years of being laughed at in the pub, local farmer’s daughter Nicola saw the potential and took up the challenge! Nicola acquired a bespoke team of Jacob Sheep, which were male show sheep that wouldn’t win prizes, and set about training them. 5 years on, our Sheep Treks have been featured on BBC Countryfile, The Times, The Telegraph, The Guardian, ITV Wales Coast & Country, SC4’s Heno, BBC Radio Wales and Radio 4, The Lady as well as countless other mentioned in the UK and abroad! There has even been a copycat business set up in Snowdonia – we know they were inspired by seeing the Countryfile programme as her mother called us to ask how her daughter could set up a business walking sheep! Imitation & all that…..

As with all things, some associations run their course and Good Day Out and Nicola have agreed to cease our marketing partnership so we will no longer be selling the Sheep Trekking vouchers, or the other Lambing & Shearing experiences that we also marketed through Good Day Out. Nicola and her family will continue to offer these farm experiences though and we wish them luck for the future.

We naturally would still love to see you on one of our other innovative and engaging experience days, so please pop over to our other pages to choose from walking our mini donkeys, Kunekune piggies or having a go at commanding a working sheepdog herding sheep, along with other fun days out in the beautiful Brecon Beacons.
